Why Trust Our Casper Mattress Review?
Before we delve deeper into unfolding Casper, here is why you can rely on our review;
Finding a mattress online has become harder than ever. With mattress companies popping up and online mattress stores pumped with fake reviews to boost sales, picking a mattress is no different than a haystack riddle. You are then left alone to do your due diligence and if you are not experienced and keen enough, you will be lucky to find yourself that mattress you’ve been dreaming about.
We’ve been testing sleep products for over 7 years now and we know what to look for in a mattress, so we clearly have a clue. We test the sleep products that we review and we have tested every detail of the Casper mattress.
Since everyone has their own mattress preferences and how they define comfort, we do our best to test every mattresses detail –Also done by different people.
Keeping in mind sleeping style (posture), weight factor, health among other factors, we believe that findings and review helps many folks find their best mattress.
Off we go with our Casper Mattress Review;
First up, the Casper mattress is a hybrid of both Latex and Memory foam. It is made up of four layers utilizing the open cell technology to improve air circulation while you sleep.
First layer (top) – The top layer of Casper measures 1.5 inches and is made of synthetic latex-foam. This latex layer which has a density of 3.3 PCF has been put in place to augment comfort and cooling which is a problem with many memory foam mattresses.
The Second Layer – Just under the Dunlop latex layer is a 1.5 inch layer of memory foam which has a density of 4 PCF. This open celled softer foam layer helps in easing in the advantages of memory foam while eliminating any heat that one could experience by sleeping on the mattress.
Third Layer – Another layer of polyurethane foam which has a density of 2.5 PCF has been added to the third layer. This layer blends the softer foam to the base while maintaining steady comfort and support for the mattress.
The foundation Layer (base) – To give the mattress a good base, Casper has added 5 inch thick poly foam with a high density of 1.8 PCF. The foundation is thick enough and with such density, you are guaranteed to get good support and paralleled comfort.
The Casper Mattress Cover
To wrap the mattress, comes a simple, soft-textured cover that is both breathable and tough. The cover is made up of a number of materials including polyester, rayon, synthetic polymer an aramid. The soft top part is white in color, stretchy and porous improving cooling while sleeping.
Casper isn’t a soft mattress and neither is it so stiff. From a medium sized person, Casper mattress has a medium feel. It’s an average firm but not hard mattress and perfectly fits within the Universal comfort class which aims to cater for most people with different sleeping styles, in which case it seems to be on track. On a scale of 6 to 10 where 10 is the firmest, Casper is somewhere in the 6.5 spot.
One important thing worth keeping in mind, however, is that firmness will vary depending on the weight of a person.
Motion Transfer & Sinkage
Perhaps a very important factor that defines how comfortable one sleeps is the motion transfer and the sinkage of that particular mattress is how wobbly that mattress is. If you sleep with your partner, you shouldn’t experience any twitching when the other person turns or hop into bed. The good news with Casper mattress is that it has no motion transfer issue and even if you place a wine glass and jump on the one side, you might not realize any movements at all.
With a sinkage of about 1.5 inches deep for a medium size person, and very minimal motion transfer that can’t cause disturbance, we can conclude that Casper did their assignment well on this.
Support & Pressure Relief
There are many mattresses in the market which can’t be trusted with the chemical compounds they use to make their mattresses. Most of us don’t notice the cloud of chemicals that we sleep on until it is too late. Casper is a CENTI-PUR certified mattress which is a third party chemical-free seal. This means that the mattress doesn’t contain any ozone depleters and such chemical compounds that are not healthy.
Here are other things that are tested under CENTI-PUR code;
- Test for PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (”Tris”)
- Test for flame retardants.
- Ensuring mattresses have no mercury, lead, among other heavy metals.
- Ensuring the mattress is made without
Lucky enough Casper isn’t one of them and you don’t have to worry about sneezing or damaging your lungs. While unboxing Casper, you can hardly notice any smell.
Memory foam mattresses ate known to sleep hot and Casper’s ingenious design and creativity of bringing a latex layer on top of the mattress has significantly reduced chances of heat building up. Through our test, we didn’t realize any heat while sleeping. Also, we haven’t come across any review from a sleeper claiming to have experienced heat buildup while they sleep.
It is also important to note that heat retention could also be influenced by the beddings you lay on. You might also want to check out the Casper sheets, which we love.
Does Casper Help Relieve Pain?
Casper being a medium firm mattress offers good body contouring to most people who sleep on different styles. It has good body and spinal alignment which is excellent in relieving pain.
We did come across a handful number of reviews from people who had good results with the use of Casper on their pain issues. People who have degenerated discs and other back pains have also seen better days with the Casper mattress.
Do You Need A Foundation For Casper Mattress?
Metal bed frames don’t work perfectly with foam mattresses and with Casper having foam in its structure you need to get a good box spring. Casper also recommends that one get a box spring that has slats 3” apart for the best results and to also avoid sagging. Their box spring which
